Even when we eat well and exercise regularly we all have wobbly bits we just can’t seem to shift. Often these bits are in places that are genetically programmed such as the saddlebags, muffin tops, love handles, double chin, and ‘bra fat’ that just will not shift. These ‘little bulges’ can really get to us and affect how we feel about ourselves, both in and out of clothes.
Body sculpting treats these localised areas of fat by targeting only the wobbly bit. Cryolipolysis technology uses controlled cooling to freeze the fat cells in the treatment area. Fat cells are particularly susceptible to the effects of cold compared to the surrounding skin and soft tissues. As the fat cells freeze they become damaged and burst. This triggers an inflammatory response that draws macrophage cells to the area. These cells mop up the dead fat cells and the fat from the area.
The process of cells dying starts immediately but takes two to four months to be completed. When the fat cells are destroyed by the cryolipolysis process, they are gone forever. So long as you maintain your current body weight, the contour will remain the same – similar to the longevity of liposuction.
Fat freezing can be used to treat the abdomen, back, thighs, hips, legs, arms, buttocks, bra bulges and chin. Best results are seen on the abdomen and back.
Results vary between individuals but the average fat loss following one treatment is between 15 and 40%.
The number of sessions required will depend on the area being treated, but most require between 1 and 3 sessions.
Consultation and treatment
Every treatment plan is tailored to your specific needs. At your consultation Dr McCallum will take a thorough history and examine the area(s) you are unhappy with. The fat pads are measured and a bespoke non-invasive treatment plan is developed to suit your individual needs.
At your treatment appointment Dr McCallum will measure and mark the area to be treated. The appropriate CRYO applicator is chosen and a protective membrane applied to the skin. The fatty area is vacuumed into the hollow of the applicator and the temperature slowly drops from 37 degrees down to below -5. The area can feel very cold, numb or like a pressure but should not be painful
The applicator stays in place for 20 – 40 minutes and during this you can relax with your phone or a book. Once removed the area is gently massaged to stimulate blood flow and disperse any ice crystals. And you’re free to get on with your day as normal.
Cryolipolysis can be combined with ultrasound cavitation and radio-frequency skin tightening for a more noticeable and timely result. See pricelist.

I was sceptical that freezing fat could actually help destroy fat cells and treat our wobbly bits but there are plenty of clinical papers that provide evidence it works. rigorously tested through research and has many scientific studies and clinical papers published in peer-reviewed literature that testify to its effectiveness. Ultrasound waves are low frequency sound waves. The ultrasound waves penetrate below the skin’s surface causing bubbles to form around fat cells. The bubbles cause damage to the fat cell membrane and liquefication of the fat inside. The liquid fat then leaks into the interstitial space around the fat cells and is drained by the lymphatic systems. Ultrasound energy selectively targets fat cells in the chosen body area without harming surrounding tissues.
The liquefied fat starts to be released from the fat cells during the ultrasound treatment. This leads to smaller fat cells and noticeable loss of fat immediately after the treatment. The combination of smaller fat cells and removal of the liquefied fat, means noticeable results from day 1 that improve over subsequent weeks. Therefore, this fat loss treatment is ideal if you are short on time, as results can be experienced more rapidly than with other fat reduction techniques.
Over the following days and weeks, the liquefied fat is then absorbed by the lymphatic system and flushed from the body. In general clients lose 2-5 cm after just one treatment.

Radio frequency Treatment
Radio Frequency is used alongside the ultrasound applied to improve skin increasing elasticity, firmness and even tone. Radio Frequency uses radio waves to safely heat the deeper layers of the skin (dermis), while the skin surface remains around 40°C. As a result of the heat, the collagen in the dermis contracts, providing an immediate change in skin appearance.
This also leads to a longer term boost in the production of collagen in the skin, reducing cellulite and making the skin look and feel firmer. Used along side ultrasound cavitation or cryolipolysis it can help deal with loose skin associated with our wobbly bits.

Ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area and the ultrasound hand piece is moved over the target area hundreds of times to gently melt the fat and shape the area. You may feel a warm sensation during the procedure and hear a buzzing from the ultrasound machine. Then the radio frequency hand piece is then used to treat the skin. This can feel warm but also relaxing.
The whole treatment takes 30 – 60 minutes with noticeable results immediately. There may be some redness but this settles within a few minutes.
