Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers contain a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) that is found naturally in our skin. When it is injected into the deeper layers of the skin or under the skin, it helps to add volume and draws water into the area. This plumps and smooths lines and folds, can restore or add volume and can add definition to specific areas.

At SkinGenius we use a variety of fillers including Juvaderm, Restylane, Teoxane and Revolax. Different fillers have different properties so are used for different areas of the face.

Fillers are very versatile and can be used to smooth fine lines, add definition, replace volume or enhance an area. The aim is to create a beautiful and natural look. However, we’re all individuals and more striking enhancements may be requested, and can be discussed.

Lips

Dermal fillers can be used to add definition to the border of the lips, increase volume and fullness of the body of the lips, create a different shape, improve a down-turned smile and to treat lines around the lips (smokers lines).

Nasolabials

These are the lines or folds that run from the side of the nose to the ends of the mouth. Filler can be injected deep to the lines/folds to add support and smooth them from underneath. Filler can also be injected into the mid or upper cheek to soften or lift nasolabial folds.

Marionettes

These are the lines or grooves below the ends of the mouth. These can pull the corners of the mouth down, causing a down-turned smile, and can lead to the appearance of pre-jowls. Adding filler deep to the lines or grooves, can plump the area and lift the jowls. Adding a small amount at the ends of the mouth can also support the lip ends and lift the smile.

Cheeks

Filler can be added to the mid-cheek to add volume or to the upper cheek (cheekbone) to create definition. Adding filler to the cheek helps to lift the whole face and reduce the ageing effects in the lower half of the face so can improve nasolabials, marionette’s and even pre-jowls.

Tear Troughs

Dermal filler can be injected under the skin and muscle layer of the lower lid. This plumps the lid area, leading to reduced shadow/dark circles and gives a more youthful look.

Jawline, Jowls and Chin

Some of us have never had a strong jawline, while others lose definition of the jaw and develop jowls as we age.  Filler can be used to provide structure and definition to both of these areas giving a more youthful look. Filler can also be used to add volume to a flat chin or the balance the chin with the jaw and lower face.

Scars and Lines

Fine lines, deeper lines and scars can all be smoothed with filler. By injecting filler directly below the skin; the lines are plumped and smoothed. This usually requires tiny amounts of filler, so can be an add on treatment when any filler remains after a cheek, tear trough, lip, nasolabial or marionette procedure.

Dermal filler treatment:

  • Takes 30-60 minutes (depending on number of areas to be treated).
  • Is administered by a fine needle into the desired area in tiny amounts.
  • There is local anaesthetic mixed in with the filler to reduce pain during injection but a small amount of topical anaesthetic pre-procedure can be requested. A dental block can also be used for lip fillers
  • Back to work immediately but may have some mild swelling, bruising or soreness.
  • The bulk of the result is immediate but there will be further plumping of the area over the first week or two as the filler attracts water to the area.
  • Results last 12 -18 months as the HA in the filler is naturally broken down over time.
  • Your face will return to its original form once all the HA has broken down.
