Our Duty of Candour Responsibilities
All health and social care services in Scotland have a duty of candour (DoC). This is a legal requirement, which means that if things go wrong and mistakes happen, the people affected understand what has happened, receive an apology, and organisations learn how to improve for the future.
An important part of this DoC is that we provide an annual report about the DoC in our services. This short report describes how our health services have operated the DoC during each year (usually April to March).
Where something has happened which triggers the DoC, staff has a responsibility for ensuring that the DoC policy and procedure is followed. If an incident occurs, we will set up a learning review. This allows everyone involved to review what happened and identify changes for the future.
