Exfoliation: keep your complexion bright and fresh

Exfoliating the skin is one of the essential key skincare practices which helps to keep you looking fresh-faced.

Skin has a 28 day cycle, so the layer of skin on the surface is 28 days old, dry and dead. These skin cells should shed naturally but sometimes this process is too slow due to ageing, hormones or sun exposure; and a little help is required.  The removal of the dead skin cells, makes way for newer skin cells giving your skin a healthy glow.

There are two types of exfoliators or exfoliants; mechanical and chemical. Mechanical exfoliators use tools like razors or brushes whereas chemical exfoliants use natural chemicals such glycolic acid (from sugar), lactic acid (from milk) and fruit enzymes (AHA).

AlumierMD offer a variety of chemical exfoliants for home use that can be used on all skin types. These should be used 1 – 3 times a week to help shed the skin of the dull outer layer.

Lotus Scrub: it contains lotus seed powder and methylcellulose. It is applied to damp skin and rinsed off with water.

AHA Renewal Serum:  is suitable for all skin types. It contains 8% lactic acid that removes dead skin layers, speeds cell turnover, reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation and smooths fine lines and wrinkles. It also has added hydrators and is applied before bed.

Enzymatic Peel: contains 10% lactic acid and fruit enzymes that exfoliate dead skin cells and promote skin renewal, minimising the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation.  It also contains aloe vera to sooth the skin and hydrators.  It is applied with fingers/brush, left on for 3-5 minutes then rinsed off with water.
