Injections for lines and wrinkles work by injecting a substance to temporarily relax the facial muscles under the skin. Due to recent legislation, we can no longer mention the substance by name on websites or adverts but can describe it’s action.
By relaxing the muscles just enough, lines are smoothed but facial expressions can still be made. In addition, by relaxing the muscle and overlying skin, further or deeper line formation can actually be prevented. So these injections are an investment for the future.
Specific treatment areas are:
- forehead lines
- frown lines between the eyebrows (11 or glabellar lines)
- crows feet (at the sides of the eyes)
- lines around the mouth (smokers lines)
- downturned smile
- sagging neck/jawline
They can also be used to lift the eyebrows giving a more arched appearance and treat excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Treatment:
- Takes 20-30 minutes (depending on number of areas to be treated).
- Is administered by a fine needle into the desired area in tiny amounts.
- No anaesthesia required but a small amount of topical anaesthetic or application of an ice pack pre-procedure can be requested.
- Back to work immediately but may have some mild swelling, bruising or soreness.
- Can take a few days to 2 weeks to become fully effective.
- Results typically last 3 to 4 months.
- As the level of the substance in the muscles decreases over time, the effects wear off and your face will return to its original form.
